Poster: Auguste Renoir – La Grenouillere – 1869
This painting belongs to a group of paintings that Renoir painted in Paris 1869. This image shows “La Grenouillère”, the frog pond, was a popular place for workers and the middle class of Paris to bathe and relax. It is located in Bougival, west of the capital. In September 1869, Auguste Renoir and Claude Monet spent several days here together. They painted the same motif several times from different perspectives. One of Monet’s paintings can be seen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
